It was a night to remember for Carlton Baths at the YMCA Victoria Staff and Volunteer Awards night on Friday the 21st of October, with the facility taking home the coveted ‘YMCA of the Year’ award.

The award, assessed by key senior and specialist managers of the organisation, recognises performance against best practice benchmarks and the ability to deliver the YMCA mission and values in its community. In an impressive field of nominees, Carlton came out on top to cap off a whirlwind 12 months for the facility.

The honour comes after the centre celebrated its 100th Birthday in February 2016, in a year that also included a major redevelopment of the swimming pool, Platinum Pool Accreditation and the introduction of the ‘Sundays at the Baths’ program.

Centre Manager David Thorpe expressed his delight at winning the award, hailing the centre’s community and culture.

“It’s the people we have here that really make this centre special. It’s a tight-knit community and I’m proud to be a part of it.

"It’s been a big year for us and there’s been plenty going on at the centre. Our members have been fantastic throughout, we celebrate a strong partnership with the City of Melbourne and our staff have worked so hard to get us to where we are now

"I’d like to thank everyone involved at Carlton Baths, including all members, staff and the City of Melbourne. It’s a great place to be and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this great centre”.
