Carlton Baths had 4 of our running group members race in the 42.2km Marathon (Sarah J, Nick, Evelyn, and Guy) and 3 in the Half marathon (Sarah-Jane, James, and Jak). The team trained together over the last 4 months both as a group and with individualised training plans including long runs on the weekend up to 36km.
Sarah J ran the marathon for the 2nd time this year and ran a huge PB of 3:28, despite muscle cramping in the final 10km.
Nick and Evelyn trained and ran together for the entire marathon - both of them finishing in 3:38 for their first marathon.
Guy ran his first marathon as well and stuck to his race plan - he did not even hit 'the wall' and finished in 3:51.
James suffered a severe respiratory injury in 2016 which took months for him to recover with many hospital stays and months off work. He worked hard throughout 2017 to get back his cardio fitness and ran a PB for the half marathon in 1:39.
Sara-Jane trained for her 2nd half marathon both with a running training plan and in the gym doing PT sessions. Sara-Jane ran a PB of 3:06 for the half marathon.
Emily, our Pump instructor and seasoned runner enjoyed the half marathon and ran the 21.1kms in 2:05 - somehow Emily bounced back to instruct our 6:15am Pump class on Monday morning!
Jak, PT and running group coach, ran as a volunteer pacer in the half marathon for the 1:35 pace group keeping up to the challenge of running at an even pace for 21.1km to finish in just under 1:35.
