Swimming strokes such as freestyle and backstroke are an important part of swimming. However it’s vital your children learn personal survival skills, not for just the pool, but rivers, lakes and the ocean. With YMCA Swimming Lessons, your child will learn these important lifesaving skills to ensure they are safe around water.

Being a member of our swim school allows students to have access to the pool outside of lesson times, accompanied by one adult and they will also receive merchandise discounts. Our nationally accredited teachers give you regular feedback on progress, and a certificate after your child completes each level.

YMCA Swimming lessons for the 2016/2017 season

Our lessons for the 2016/2017 summer season will start on Wednesday 2nd November 2016, and run through to Saturday 1st April 2017, with a 6 week break over the December/January school holidays.  There will be 16 lessons in total over the entire season and lessons will be paid for via a fortnightly direct debit over the whole 5 months of the season.

We have a range of classes available, from beginners to advanced, from 3 year olds to adults.  We will have something suitable for you / your child, with our classes running initially on a Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Bookings for the swimming lessons will open Monday 10th October, so contact the centre to organise an assessment or to book into a class after this date.

Getting started with YMCA Swimming Lessons is easy.

  1. Call us for an easy, over the phone consultation, where we will determine your child’s ability.

  2. Your child may need to come in for an assessment or perhaps could go straight into a class at a suitable time & day

  3. Come down to the centre early to complete paperwork and meet your new teacher or coordinator if having an assessment.
